Hickory Wood Slabs
Hickory is one of the hardest woods indigenous to the United States. It makes good baseball bats, tool handles, wheel spokes, and airplanes. In the early days of aircraft building, Hickory was the wood of choice; that really puts into perspective just how hard this wood is. There are many different types of Hickory. A lot of companies bundle several species together and call it rustic or calico. We think that takes away from the beauty of the wood; we prefer to see a whole slab showing off the appearance of a single specie. Some Hickory species are dark all the way through and some are light, but one thing’s for sure: they all look fantastic. When working with Hickory, do yourself a favor and keep sharp cutters for clean cuts. It’s kind of difficult to work because it’s so scratch and dent resistant, but that makes it awesome for tables and bars.
