Monkey Pod, also known as Parota, is one of the exotic hardwoods whose popularity is growing. Much of the Monkey Pod we’ve acquired from our urban lumber operations is full of dynamic and beautiful grain colors. The trees growing in Florida is similar in look of the Hawaiian growing one; a sharp contrast to the Central American and Mexican one which has less interesting characteristics.
Monkey Pod is a forgiving wood that many woodworkers use to craft amazing pieces of furniture. It has a mix of straight and interlocking grain, which can cause tear-out. It also has open pores that need filling to finish smooth. This wood is typically used for furniture, but to really appreciate the beauty of Monkey Pod, you should use a live-edge slab.
All of our Monkey Pod slabs come from logs felled locally because of land development. We want to save as many of these trees as possible from being turned into mulch, and instead turn them into beautiful material for woodworkers.
